Anorexia Nervosa is an extremely damaging and often deadly eating disorder. Out of all the clinically defined mental disorders, anorexia has the highest mortality rate. This destructive mental disorder is characterized by a person’s unwavering belief that they are overweight, even when they are at a dangerously low weight level. If you believe either you or a loved one are suffering from anorexia, here are a few signs and symptoms to be on the lookout for.
There are several outwardly apparent symptoms associated with anorexia nervosa that should be relatively easy to identify. The clearest visible symptom will be an extremely thin, emaciated appearance. Additionally, the skin of the affected individual will appear dry and yellowed, their hair and nails brittle. The individual will be lethargic, and a lower core body temperature will cause them to feel cold almost constantly. These are all visible signs of a person suffering from anorexia and, if identified in yourself or a loved one, should be addressed immediately.
Behaviorally, a person suffering from anorexia will have extremely regimented, restricted eating habits, consuming as close to zero calories per day as they possibly can. They will have a constant fear of gaining weight, even as they wither away to skin and bone. They will derive almost all of their self-esteem by their perception of their body, and will constantly feel they need to lose additional weight. No amount of persuasive discussion will successfully sway their opinion about their weight, and they will become frustrated as they are forced to deny the seriousness of their low body weight. Often an anorexic individual enjoys preparing food for others and watching them eat while abstaining from consumption themselves. These are all behavioral indicators of anorexia, and should be taken seriously.

This disorder is caused by a distorted perception of your body and the constant belief that you need to lose additional weight no matter how thin you become.
