Top 10: Tips for Happiness

"Happiness is an inside Job"

The American Dream: an eternal pursuit for happiness. The concept of happiness is a booming industry leading to over $1billion dollars spent on motivational speaking and close to 600 million dollars worth of self-help books spent each year in the United States.

There is more available than ever for invoking supposed happiness yet our country's depression rates are the highest they've ever been. According to a survey done by Mental Health America there are currently 16 million living with Major Depression and 4.2 Million living with an Anxiety Disorder. The number of people struggling with addiction is close to 27 million in the US. 

Perhaps, as a society, we are seeking happiness in the wrong places. We are looking for fulfillment through external sources such as the internet, money, medicines, self-help books, etc, etc, etc...

Happiness isn't found anywhere in this world. Happiness is found within yourselves.

Our goal in this week’s Facebook Live with Dr. Huttman, Dr. Fraser, and Blake was to offer our Top 10 tips for increasing happiness in your daily life. Our goal was to challenge you to look inside yourself instead of outside of yourself. 

Some of the highlights this week were:

  • Gratitude List (#2)

  • Focusing on a list of things that you are grateful for in your life can increase positivity and help adjust your perspective.

  • Exercise and Nourishment (#3 & #4)

  • Basic self care is directly reflected in how you feel on a day-to-day basis.

  • Associate with Positive People (#6)

  • You are who you surround yourself with.

  • Service Work (#8)

  • Helping others and acts of kindness (altruism) take focus off of yourself and make you feel good. It gives you a sense of purpose.
